Arginine

One of the twenty most common amino acids, arginine plays a key role in our bodies inner workings. It assists with wound healing, producing human growth hormone (HGH), and makes nitric oxide, an essential element for relaxing blood vessels and improving everything from muscle growth to maintaining an erection.

Description

Although it was identified over 50 years ago, the scientific research on arginine continues to grow. This is because its list of benefits is being expanded upon almost daily. Researchers claim that it aids in helping people lose weight by increasing lipid oxidation. Body builders take it because it is utilized in the body to make creatine and stimulates blood flow to recently exercised muscle groups.

Benefits

  • Known to scavenge free radicals outside of the cell membrane
  • Responsible for increasing immune system response
  • Assists the liver in removing ammonia from the body
  • As noted earlier, Arginine leads to increased production of HGH which breaks down lipids (fats), increases metabolism, and stimulates muscle growth. This reaction also decreases the “bad cholesterol” levels in the body.
  • Arginine’s role in stimulating blood flow to the body by making nitric oxide (which relaxes capillary walls and allows blood to flow more freely) is used for both increasing muscle size after a work out and to aid in proper erectile functioning.
  • Arginine is used to produce L-proline, which in turn synthesizes collagen, leading to more rapid healing of wounds.
